Accessibility statement

Many people who need a flu shot are older adults, people with disabilities, or people helping someone else. VaxFinder should work for all of them.

Our target

WCAG 2.2, Level AA

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 (opens in a new tab) at Level AA. We design and build every page to that standard, and checking with automated tools, a keyboard, and a screen reader is part of our release process.

This is a goal, not a certification. We haven't had an independent audit yet, and we may not have caught every problem.

What we've done

Measures we've taken

Keyboard
Every page and form step can be used with a keyboard alone, with a “Skip to main content” link and a logical tab order.
Visible focus
A clear, high-contrast outline shows where you are on the page.
Labels and instructions
Every form field has a visible label. Hints and errors are announced with the field they belong to.
Error summaries
If something needs fixing, a summary at the top lists each problem and links to the field. Errors are written in text, not shown by color alone.
Simple verification
We don't use image or audio CAPTCHA puzzles. A background security check runs while you fill out the form, followed by one Confirm button before sending.
A list alternative to the map
Pharmacy results appear as a list by default. The map is optional and the list has the same information.
Reduced motion
If your device is set to reduce motion, we turn animations off.
Readable text and zoom
Pages are designed to work when text is enlarged and on screens as narrow as 320 pixels, without sideways scrolling.
Plain language
We write in short sentences, explain terms like “in-network,” and avoid jargon.

Known limitations

Where we fall short

  • The map is visual. It's hard to use with a screen reader. Please use the list view, which has the same pharmacies and details.
  • Listing details come from third-party data. Opening hours and other details come from OpenStreetMap and may be incomplete, out of date, or written in a format that is hard to read aloud. Always confirm with the pharmacy.
  • Pages on other websites we link to, such as pharmacy or government sites, have their own accessibility.

Tell us

Report a problem

If something on VaxFinder is hard to use, or you need information in another format, please tell us. Say which page you were on and what happened. We'll try to help you send your request another way, and fix the problem.
